Woman, breastfeeding, post-pregnancy
 |
The Institute of
Medicine recommends that breastfeeding, post-pregnancy women consume 500 mcg of folate per
day.
Because many
women do not achieve the RDA through their diets, the March of Dimes recommends that all
women of reproductive age consume 400 mcg of folic acid per day by taking a daily
multivitamin in addition to a healthy diet.

Nutritional needs for the woman are
lower during this time than during pregnancy. However, they are higher than what is
needed by non-pregnant, non-breastfeeding women.
